"Catch and Kill is a gripping techno-thriller that picks up from where Biohack left off. Lasica explores and works through the possible evil twists and turns that abuse of future technologies can produce and wraps it all around a truly tough kickass hero – Kaden never disappoints.

Cleverly disguised as fast-paced read that reveals the genie is already out of the bottle - it caused me to continue pondering what could be and what shouldn’t be in the use of technology and inspires me to want to keep a close watch at who is developing what types of technology. Both books are thoroughly provocative, enjoyable and a must read!"

Catch and Kill A hightech conspiracy thriller Shadow Operatives Book 2 edition by JD Lasica Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

  • Lasica brings Kaden Baker back in the second take of what portends to be a fascinating series. He brings an intriguing mashup - the art of the possible meets the dreams of the probable in a book filled with action, intrigue and scientific wonder. Lasica's deep interest in technology shines through as he brings AR, VR and AI to life in a relatable and, more importantly believable context. Personally, I'll be watching firvthe next episode in Kaden's saga to drop.

While I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy, Lasica is a key author and I buy/keep all his books in my library.
  • Two things
    1) Entertainment this fast moving techno-thriller will have you ripping through the pages (or swiping, as it were!) If you are looking for that fast reading, "what happens next" experience, pick up the book now.

    2) Uh Oh Ever wonder about the dark sides of technology? If you haven't, consider that some of the things Lassica writes about are not a stretch of the imagination. See, even reading a novel you can slow down and chew on thoughtful, tough subjects. Consider not only the tech implications, but the sort of bloody, violent world this novel conjures. Can books inspire us to do better in our real world? Let's hope so! The world is not split neatly into good and evil.
  • It was a lot of fun reading this book. (No spoilers here.) Lasica builds on the themes of clandestine out-of-control mentally-whacked rich guys using technology to further their goals of world domination; deep state, undercover, off-the-books government spooks; a heroic orphan who was adopted and then betrayed by a relative; kidnapped young women on a dead-end trip bound for disaster; and a heroine who survives victoriously, yet is shadowed by doubts that threaten to take her down. The tech in the story is well thought out and leaves you wondering how close we are to some of this. And wondering whether you should cancel that scheduled visit to The Big Theme Park next month. Written in that mystery style where there are several threads going on all the time, coming together late in the story in a satisfying chase scene with twists and turns, and a climactic denoument at the end. This story places well up there among the thrillers, mysteries and sci-fi I've read in the last couple of years!
  • I read this book when the author had it priced at zero. I am glad to be able to read this sequel to Biohack, apparently no matter what you may have read elsewhere.

This is definitely a sequel. Having read and reviewed BioHack (available on Unlimited), I know a bit about what's going on. I really think reading the first book is necessary to really understand what's going on.

Jaden is back, along with her fellow hackers from B Collective. There are a few newcomers in the mix. Most notably Amelia, the best hacker of all.

After a botched kidnapping attempt during which Kaden suffered a life-changing loss, B Collective wondered if it was related to The Disappearance. One day in America when girls, ages 16 to 19 disappeared off the streets, or in several instances, by being forced into a van. No one really knows how many girls Disappeared. There's a good reason B Collective wondered.

Jaden is on the chase for the man who ruined her life. She is so focused on chasing him, she pays no attention. Until all of a sudden her chasing has turned into a two pronged attack.

People she trusts turn traitor, people she doesn't know have shocking news, and she goes off a cliff - twice.

    WARNING Cliff Hanger
  • JD Lasica has written a timely novel with cyber skills, political intrigue, and action. A classic thriller with modern twists, it's a compelling read from beginning to end.
  • Catch and Kill is a gripping techno-thriller that picks up from where Biohack left off. Lasica explores and works through the possible evil twists and turns that abuse of future technologies can produce and wraps it all around a truly tough kickass hero – Kaden never disappoints.

  • Continuing what clearly will be an ongoing series, Lasica has written another great near-future thriller which as a fan of science fiction and a technologist writes believably about where tech is going in the not too distant future - whether it is software or biology. It is not an easy read in parts, diving deep in the not always pleasant ways some technology may be used to manipulate and influence people as well as to give form to our darkest desires and fantasies. As the second book in a series while this could stand on its own, it is definitely building upon the worldbuilding of the previous book in the series and clearly is setting up for the next book - a book I'm looking forward to reading.

I had the fortunate opportunity to read Catch and Kill in an early version and to give Lasica some feedback about the book ahead of the final publication, upon buying the final edition I was pleased to see that his changes from the early version I had read had tightened the story and strengthened it.
  • Our AI always-connected near-future may be unsettling indeed. Catch and Kill builds on Lasica's previous Biohack and shows, that despite its promise, the dark side of technology can be Orwellian and scary. This is a thriller that asks the implied question Where is this technology going and who will control it?

It's fast-paced, quite believable, with more than a few plot twists. I look forward to the next volume in the series.

Bonus points for a seemingly innocuous IoT device playing a crucial role.)
