- Tess is wounded, hurting and ashamed. She had put the corporate world behind her. She hid out in her old home town of Sweet Creek; she never talked about that time, six years ago. She was busy being busy and, though she thought she was "dealing" with her pain, she wasn't. She just put it in a mental box and refused to look at it too intently. Then Jace came home working on a business proposal for his boss and they found that their love remained. He wanted answers; wanted to know why she left him, why she left them. Finally, in a rush of pain and anger she blasted his world apart with the truth. Where could they go from there? Could they go on at all?
Ms. Aarsen has crafted an unforgettable novel with characters that simply will not be forgotten. I can't say that I "enjoyed" the book, but I will say that I couldn't put it down ! Tess had had a simple faith six years ago, sure that God wouldn't allow anything bad to happen to His child! When it did, she lost her faith ... I could understand that. My faith got tested and I tried to ignore Him too. He stayed and I learned. I think it was a book I needed to read, maybe you do too. I recommend
"Close to His Heart" and I think it will touch Your heart as well. - Six years ago, Tess Kraus left her college boyfriend, Jace Scholte without explanation and took off to Europe. Something very traumatic happened to her the evening before she left. Now Jace is in Sweet Creek and they have to work together on a fundraising event.
This book was very emotional. I liked Jace and felt sorry for him because he doesn't know the reason she left. I really wanted them to have their HEA.
Very good book and highly recommended. - Wow! Close to His Heart was a great bood to read. Carolyne Aarsen is an author who knows how to get below the surface of her characters in the stories and pull you into the story like you are a part of it. I sighed, I cried and I was happy at the ending. I love how she wove in how Tess had ignored God because she felt that God had abandoned her in a dreadful time of her life. The way back home to God is a struggle but it is worth it! Thank you Carolyn Aarsen, for your wonderful book of the continued series of Sweet Hearts of Sweet Creek!
- Great story by one of my favorite authors! Carolyn Aarsen is not afraid to tackle hard subjects and all the emotion and angst that come with the problems. She also does not hesitate to let her readers know that relationship with God is the only way for things to get better. Life is not perfect but personal relationship with God can help us make it through the unimaginable!
- The range of emotions woven into this book keep you wanting to read more. I can’t wait until the next book comes out! I would love to move to Sweet Creek and become a part of the caring community! Excellent read! I certainly recommend it - so many are hiding secrets that God can heal! Loved this.

- Jace and Tess had been sweethearts for a long time and had planned to marry. They worked at the same high-powered company until Tess ran off to Europe and didn't leave Jace a reason for her disappearance. Fox six years he questioned why without any of the answers. He had returned to Sweet Creek to try to convince the town council to allow his employer to build some high-rent condos. While there he ran into Tess. Tess still loved him but couldn't let him know her secret and the reason she ran away. She knew it would destroy what they had been to each other and she couldn't bear it. It was easier for her to walk away and not give him a reason than for him to hate her for the real reason she left.
Through forgiveness and the influence of others showing kindness and love, she was finally able to reveal her secret but would it be too late for she and Jace to have a happily ever after? You'll have to read to find out. - I truly enjoyed this book! These books are so well written! I have enjoyed this whole series so far!
Tess and Jace had been high school sweatherts everything was great. Then on day she disappeared, Jace couldnt figure out what happened he txt and called but Tess wouldnt answer. When they meet up again they have a long road ahead of them and Jace doesn't know until much later that she had been raped by their boss. Jace quits his job he is so in shock that the man who has been like a father to him could do this to the woman he ( Jace ) loved. Tess feels like Jace will never want her that she isnt good enough, thats why she ran away to Europe for 6 months a d quit her Job. It all comes out in the end and Jace proposes to Tess and she accepts. I highly recommend this book!
